AI League, the new mobile video game launched by FIFA, differs from the popular FIFA series because it is not a simulation game. Instead, AI League is a casual football game featuring four-on-four matches between AI-controlled characters. Players take on the role of coaches, setting tactics, training players, and intervening at specific moments during the matches.
The characters in AI League are colorful and cartoonish, resembling the creatures in a Pixar film or the popular video game Fall Guys. The game’s AI controls the movements of these characters and their unique strengths and weaknesses. Players take on the roles of coaches and owners, making tactical decisions and training their team to succeed. The game features maps inspired by global cities like Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Yaoundé, and Seoul.
🎙 Aaron McDonald, the Altered State Machine co-founder, said: “Our mission is to lead casual gamers into the world of AI gaming in the metaverse, and with FIFA’s AI League, we are unlocking a unique new opportunity for football fans around the globe to interact with their favorite sport.”
Altered State Machine’s AI League was first unveiled last November as part of a collection of Web 3.0 and metaverse applications to enhance fan engagement and attract younger audiences.
According to a representative from Altered State, although AI League is currently free-to-play, the company plans to introduce an NFT marketplace for the game soon. Once launched, the game’s characters will be minted into NFTs, and all future characters will be represented as NFTs.
⭐ The FIFA AI League targets younger generations, particularly children, rather than traditional football fans. Without viable alternatives, FIFA’s split from EA Sports means that the organization has limited options for a new licensee willing to offer comparable agreements. However, AI League offers insight into FIFA’s future direction after EA and why retaining the right to create Web 3.0 and metaverse titles was important. Many rights holders see these platforms as the future of fan engagement. Additionally, AI League’s plans to incorporate NFTs and other features suggest that FIFA is committed to staying at the forefront of emerging technologies to attract and engage with new audiences.
